Customs Seizes 975 Cartridges Hidden in Rice Bags in Ogun.

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, revealed the interception of 975 rounds of live ammunition hidden in five bags of rice along the palace/Ayetoro road in Imeko Afon Local Government of Ogun State. Acting Area Controller Ahmadu Shuaibu disclosed that the seizure on November 27 resulted from intelligence reports, leading them to monitor smugglers involved in live ammunition trafficking for about a week before the operation. The intelligence indicated that 975 rounds of red stars cartridges were concealed in five bags of rice and hidden in a bush path. Customs officials evacuated the bags without any confrontation. The unusual threading and sewing of the sacks raised suspicion, leading to a detailed examination that exposed the ammunition. The NCS is actively pursuing those responsible for the illegal act to ensure they face justice. Recognizing the severe consequences of smuggling arms and ammunition, the NCS remains committed to combating such activities for national security and stability.
