Governor Aliyu Orders Prompt Restoration of Former President Shagari's Fire-Damaged Residence

Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has issued a directive for the comprehensive refurbishment of the inaugural residence of former President Shehu Shagari, which was engulfed in flames last week. The Governor made this decision following his visit to the charred house to assess the extent of the damage caused by the devastating fire.

Characterizing the inferno as catastrophic and lamentable, Governor Aliyu emphasized the historical significance of the burnt residence, not only for Sokoto State but for the entire nation. He highlighted that the house holds great historical importance as it served as the initial abode of Nigeria’s first democratically-elected President, Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, making it akin to a historical monument for future generations.

Expressing condolences to the late President’s family, Governor Aliyu prayed to Almighty Allah to prevent a recurrence of such a disaster. He expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the fire, urging the family to perceive it as an act of God.

The former President’s residence fell victim to a destructive fire on the 18th of this month, resulting in substantial property losses. During his visit, Governor Aliyu was guided through the affected areas of the burnt house by some members of the Shagari family.

Accompanying the Governor on this empathetic visit were key figures, including the APC leader in the State, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, Deputy Speaker Kabiru Kware, State APC Chairman Isa Saddiq Achida, Secretary to the State Government Muhammad Bello Sifawa, members of the State Executive Council, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and other dignitaries.
