IGP Advocates Doubling Police Force Personnel for Enhanced Security

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Kayode Egbetokun emphasized the urgent need to double the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force. During a visit to the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin, he addressed the shortage of personnel, highlighting that one policeman currently performs the duties of two. Egbetokun revealed that President Bola Tinubu had approved annual recruitment in the police force to gradually increase its strength. He acknowledged the challenges officers face, working long hours with little rest, and pledged to address welfare concerns, including salary increases and improved living conditions. The IGP outlined the new vision for the police force, aiming for a professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law-compliant, citizen-friendly organization that supports government agendas for economic recovery, social integration, and political development. Additionally, Egbetokun assured a focus on training and equipping the police to effectively respond to evolving crime dynamics. During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the IGP expressed gratitude for the monarch’s assistance during his previous service in Kwara State from 2019 to 2020, considering the visit a homecoming.
