Imo Police detain 18 IPOB, ESN members in connection to DPO and Inspector’s killing

The Imo State Police Command has apprehended 18 suspected hoodlums believed to be associated with the proscribed IPOB/ESN following the tragic killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ahiazu Mbaise and an Inspector of Police at BOEK Petroleum Filling Station, Ahiara Junction, in Ahaizu, Mbaise LGA of Imo State.

As stated by police spokesperson Henry Okoye in a release provided to in Owerri, the officers were refueling their vehicle at the mentioned station when individuals, suspected to be affiliated with the proscribed IPOB/ESN and attired in military camouflage along with black and red regalia, launched an attack using three vehicles and motorcycles, opening fire on them.

The statement emphasized the courageous response of the police officers but lamented the loss of the DPO and an Inspector in the ensuing gun battle, while two other officers survived. CP Aboki Danjuma immediately led a team on a pursuit, backed by military support from the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, forcing the assailants to flee, leaving behind some operational motorcycles and sustaining injuries.

With an ongoing extensive search of the area, the statement assured that thorough investigations are underway, having arrested 18 suspects in connection with the incident.
