Lagos Issues 7-Day Notice for Vacating Illegal Structures in Lekki

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, has issued a 7-day contravention notice to building owners along Orchid Road, Agungi, Ajiran, Conservation Road, Osapa, adjacent to the Ikota River in Lekki. The announcement was conveyed by Kunle Adesina, the Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Wahab, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, declared the notice following an inspection tour of the Ikota River corridor. The purpose of the tour was to evaluate the compliance of property owners with the approved seven-meter setback on both sides of the channel for buildings and fences. The affected areas are now under scrutiny, and owners have seven days to address any contraventions. The move underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing regulations that ensure safety and adherence to approved construction standards along water channels in the Lekki region.
