Melaye Expresses Utter Despair in Nigerian Judiciary

Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State’s November 11 election, has expressed a loss of confidence in the Nigerian judiciary, asserting that it is no longer the last hope for ordinary citizens but a department within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Melaye, who secured the third position in the election, accused the APC of rigging and questioned the legitimacy of seeking justice at the tribunal when, according to him, the APC has allegedly influenced the judiciary. Usman Ododo of the APC emerged as the winner of the election, with Melaye securing 446,237 votes and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Muritala Ajaka, coming in second. Both Melaye and Ajaka rejected the election results. Melaye’s statement reflects a growing skepticism about the impartiality of the judiciary in political matters, raising concerns about the perceived influence of political affiliations on legal institutions.
