Nigeria Surpasses America's Milestone in Just 24 Years, Boasts Akpabio in Political Arena

During the budget presentation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the joint session of the National Assembly, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, proudly asserted that Nigeria achieved in 24 years what took the United States 185 years.

In his tribute to Tinubu, who transitioned from being a Senator to the President, Akpabio commended the achievement, drawing a comparison with the United States. He highlighted that it took the U.S. 185 years to produce two former senators, J.F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, as President and Vice President. In contrast, within 24 years of Nigeria’s democracy, the country has two former senators serving as the President and Vice President.

Akpabio further emphasized the notable presence of other National Assembly alumni in key positions of public trust, such as Secretary to the Federal Government Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and additional senators in the Cabinet.

Regarding the relationship with the executive, Akpabio highlighted the importance of maintaining a harmonious connection, especially given the alignment of former members with the Executive Arm. He emphasized the need to observe the principles of separation of powers, checks, and balances as enshrined in the Constitution while fostering a strong collaborative relationship with the Executive for the public interest.
