Ex-PSG Player Upbeat on Super Eagles' AFCON Chances

Former Paris Saint-Germain star Austin Jay Jay Okocha expresses confidence in the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s chances at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Despite recent concerns arising from one victory in their last four matches, Okocha believes Nigeria, with a winning mentality, can secure their fourth AFCON Trophy, particularly in Côte d’Ivoire.

Jose Peseiro’s squad secured their AFCON ticket convincingly with a 6-0 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe, topping Group A. Okocha emphasizes the importance of approaching the tournament with a positive mindset, irrespective of past doubts about the team’s capabilities.

Nigeria is grouped with Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau for the group stage matches. Okocha stresses the need for a balanced team approach, cautioning against relying solely on strikers. He highlights defenders’ role in maintaining clean sheets for overall success, urging coaches to strike the right balance in player selection for AFCON success.

The Super Eagles will prepare in Saudi Arabia before heading to Côte d’Ivoire for the tournament, aiming to bring joy to Nigerian fans.
