Former Governor Babangida Aliyu Details Removal of Shekau and Boko Haram from Niger State

Former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, revealed how he addressed the security challenge posed by Boko Haram leaders Abubakar Shekau and Abu Qaqa in the state. Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations event, Aliyu emphasized the significance of budgeting and proper planning in addressing Nigeria’s security issues. Aliyu recounted a specific incident in Mokwa Local Government where a group of nine people multiplied into 7,000, engaging in criminal activities. The group, led by the original Shekau and Abu Qaga, formed a self-declared republic involved in armed robbery and abductions.

Upon taking office, Aliyu collaborated with the late President Musa Yar’Adua to disperse the group. After compensating and providing transportation to their destinations within Nigeria, Aliyu successfully averted a potential foundation for Boko Haram in Niger State. This decisive action played a crucial role in preventing further destabilization, as the group had been visiting the River Niger Bridge regularly.
