George Weah awarded the IAWPA International Peace Prize Medal

George Weah awarded the IAWPA International Peace Prize Medal

The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), represented by its International Director of African Affairs, His Eminence, Amb. Dr. John Metchie, announced George Opong Weah, the President of Liberia, as the recipient of this year’s International Peace Prize Medal Award 2023.

This recognition celebrates the recently concluded Liberian presidential election, notably marked by a runoff that reflected the people’s will without intimidation or electoral violence, distinguishing it from elections in other African countries plagued by such issues.

President Weah previously received the International Peace Mayor Award from IAWPA in 2018, showcasing his commitment to peace until the 2023 election, where he gracefully accepted the outcome, setting an example distinct from other authoritarian leaders on the continent.

The award ceremony is slated for Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the President’s office in Monrovia, Liberia. Esteemed members of the association, including World Peace President His Excellency, Amb. Per Stafsen from the Kingdom of Denmark, and Country Presidents His Excellency, Amb. Dr. Michael Pinda from the United Kingdom, along with Amb. Declan Oguine, the European Intl. Coordinator, and other Eminent Peace Ambassadors from various countries, will attend the ceremony.

Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, the association’s International Spokesman, expressed anticipation for this historic event in Liberia, lauding President George Weah’s peaceful exit as an opportunity for sustainable development in Liberia and across Africa. He also commended incoming President Joseph Boakai for contributing to the election’s peaceful outcome.

Amb. Dr. Sammy David, the association’s Country Director in Liberia, emphasized that the award presentation signifies the highest honor from the association. He highlighted the international community’s invitation to participate in the ceremony, expecting a highly successful event.
