Military Personnel Apprehend Three Soldiers for Ammunition Theft in Maiduguri

Military forces under “Operation Desert Sanity” in Maiduguri, Borno State, have apprehended three soldiers on suspicion of stealing ammunition within the state.

The arrest occurred during a covert operation conducted at the motor parks situated along Njimtilo road in Maiduguri.

Reportedly, one of the soldiers ingeniously concealed the ammunition within a “Mudu” (a measurement plate) typically used for rice.

According to a source, “On December 2, 2023, troops carried out covert operations at motor parks and along Njimtilo Road at Njimtilo, resulting in the arrest of three soldiers. One soldier, headed to Makurdi, was found carrying 250 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Another soldier, also en route to Makurdi, was discovered with four fully loaded magazines and 110 rounds concealed within a “Mudu” of rice.

The third soldier, destined for Abuja, was arrested in possession of 14 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The suspects have been detained for further investigation.”

Efforts to reach Maj-Gen. Buba Edward, the director of Defence Media Operations, for comment or an official statement on the incident were unsuccessful as calls to his mobile phone went unanswered, and messages sent remained unanswered as of the time of this report.
