Nasarawa State House of Assembly Chooses Fresh Leadership - New Speaker and Deputy Emerge

In a significant development, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly underwent a leadership transition on Friday, electing Danladi Jatau (APC – Kokona West) as the new Speaker. This development ensued after the nullification of the former Speaker, Ibrahim Abdullahi’s election by the Appeal Court on November 28.

During an emergency plenary in Lafia, the Acting Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Musa, announced the unopposed election of Jatau and Mohammed Oyanki (PDP-Doma North) as the new Deputy Speaker. The nomination for Jatau’s speakership was put forth by Alh. Suleiman Azara (APC- Awe South) and seconded by Larry Ven-Bawa (APC- Akwanga North). Meanwhile, Solomon Akwashiki (SDP- Lafia Central) nominated Oyanki for Deputy Speaker, with the seconding by Hajiya Hajara Danyaro (APC- Nasarawa Central).

Following the seamless election process, Jatau and Oyanki were sworn in as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively. In his acceptance speech, Speaker Jatau expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead the 7th Assembly. He pledged to foster unity among members, emphasizing the importance of robust legislation for the overall development of the state. Additionally, Jatau vowed to collaborate effectively with the executive branch to ensure the tangible impact of democracy on the people of Nasarawa State. This leadership transition marks a pivotal moment in the Assembly’s commitment to advancing the democratic processes and serving the interests of the state’s constituents.
