NIA Official, Nephew of Ken Attafuah, Sentenced for Misconduct in Ghana Card Registration Scandal

The National Identification Authority (NIA) recently disclosed the conviction of an Assistant Technical Enrolment Officer (ATEO), George Kwame Essien, for misconduct during the Ghana Card registration. The incident occurred at the NIA’s Walewale District Office in the North East Region. Notably, Essien, who is the nephew of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, the Executive Secretary of the NIA, was found guilty of allowing an unqualified individual to be registered for the Ghana Card.

The ATEO’s misconduct, which compromised the integrity of the registration process, resulted in the conviction. The NIA, responsible for the country’s identification system, has taken this step to uphold the credibility and reliability of the Ghana Card issuance. This case highlights the importance of maintaining a rigorous and transparent registration procedure to ensure that only qualified applicants receive the national identification card. The NIA continues its commitment to fostering trust in the identification process and deterring any activities that could compromise the accuracy and legitimacy of the Ghana Card database.
