Niger Police Search for Mother of Abandoned Newborn

The Niger State Police Command is actively pursuing the identification of the mother who abandoned a newborn by the roadside in Tayi, Minna. The infant, discovered covered in soldier ants by vigilant neighbors, had been left there by his mother shortly after birth. Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the investigation to locate the woman responsible is ongoing. On December 3, 2023, a resident of Tayi village reported the incident to GRA Division, prompting the State Child Rights Agency to take custody of the day-old baby. The child was subsequently transported to a medical facility for necessary attention.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the focus remains on unraveling the identity of the woman who abandoned the infant. Abiodun emphasized that the matter is still under investigation, and efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the responsible party. The State Child Rights Agency continues to provide care for the abandoned newborn, highlighting the urgency and importance of resolving the case.
