Nigerian Immigration Service Plans Airport E-Gate Deployment to Enhance Migration Management, Says CG

Caroline Adepoju, the substantive Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), has revealed plans to enhance border security and migration management across the country by deploying electronic gates (e-gates) and bolstering logistics at airports and entry points. Adepoju shared this strategic initiative in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

The NIS Comptroller General explained that the deployment of electronic gates is part of an overarching plan to facilitate the movement of passengers at selected airports, both incoming and outgoing. The introduction of e-gates is set to streamline immigration processes and enhance overall efficiency.

As a pilot scheme, electronic gates will be initially introduced at specific airports, with a vision to expand their deployment to various entry points in the future. Adepoju emphasized that the primary goal is to simplify the travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.

This proactive move underscores the Nigerian Immigration Service’s commitment to embracing modern technology for improved border control and migration management, aligning with global trends in enhancing security and facilitating smoother travel procedures.
