Tinubu's Government Allocates N13.8 Billion for Buhari, Osinbajo, Gowon, and More

The government led by President Bola Tinubu has allocated N13.8 billion in the 2024 budget for the maintenance of former presidents, including Muhammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan, and Olusegun Obasanjo. This financial provision also extends to former vice presidents, such as Yemi Osinbajo, Namadi Sambo, and Atiku Abubakar, along with heads of state, chiefs of general staff, retired heads of service, permanent secretaries, and former heads of government agencies and parastatals. Among the beneficiaries are ex-military Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon, General Abdusalami Abubakar, former military President General Ibrahim Babangida, and former Chief of General Staff Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (retd.). Additionally, N1 trillion has been earmarked for public service wage adjustment, covering arrears of promotion, salary increases, severance benefits, and minimum wage-related adjustments for government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. The breakdown of the allocation reveals that N2.3 billion is set aside for the entitlements of former presidents and heads of states, while N10.5 billion is proposed for benefits for retired heads of service, permanent secretaries, and professors. Furthermore, the payment of severance benefits to retired heads of government agencies and parastatals is allocated N1 billion. Other allocations in the budget include N65 billion for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, N1 billion for the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Energy, and N108 billion for undisclosed special projects.
