Wike Conducts Inspection of Proposed Locations for Judges Quarters

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, conducted a site inspection on Tuesday at various proposed project locations in Abuja. The Minister visited the Judges Quarters site in Katampe District, the proposed Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal Complex in Sector B, Jabi/Dakibiyu District, and the planned Memorial Park in Jabi District. The purpose of these visits, as stated by the Minister, was to assess the sites physically and strategize accordingly. He emphasized that directives had been issued to the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to facilitate the required infrastructure at the sites, laying the groundwork for project commencement.

Wike reiterated the commitment to construct accommodation for Judges of the Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and Justices of the Court of Appeal of Abuja Division. He stressed the need for basic infrastructure before initiating residential building projects. Regarding the Court of Appeal complex, Wike directed the FCDA to acquire adjacent structures, provide essential infrastructure, and compensate affected parties.

The Minister also addressed plans for a Memorial Park in Jabi, dedicated to those who lost their lives in a 2008 building collapse incident. Expressing dissatisfaction with the delayed establishment of the memorial center, Wike directed the Parks and Recreation Director to create a lasting design.

Speaking to FCT residents, Wike emphasized the park’s dual purpose – enhancing the city’s aesthetics and providing a recreational space. He connected the projects to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the forthcoming initiation of work after the passage of the FCT 2024 statutory budget.

Touching on financial matters, Wike disclosed the FCT’s withdrawal from the Treasury Single Account, allowing access to funds from the broader financial market using the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as collateral. Emphasizing fiscal responsibility, he pledged to undertake projects with adequate financial backing, highlighting the imminent commencement of these ventures post-budget approval. Accompanied by high-ranking FCDA officials, the Minister assured residents of the administration’s dedication to realizing these transformative initiatives.
