Yoruba Council Worldwide Strongly Condemns N15 Billion VP Residence Budget, Threatens Legal Action

The Yoruba Council Worldwide has expressed strong disapproval of the recent budget allocation of N15 billion for the construction of the Vice President’s residence. In a press release, the Council criticized the insensitivity of such extravagant spending amid Nigeria’s economic challenges and the hardships faced by the masses. The budget allocation was announced by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

The Council decried the apparent misalignment of national priorities, citing the removal of fuel subsidies that has increased the cost of living for citizens. It called on Minister Wike to retract the proposed expenditure and redirect the funds to more pressing national issues such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation.

The Yoruba Council Worldwide emphasized its commitment to taking legal action to prevent the misuse of public funds. It urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and hold their leaders accountable. The Council urged the government to prioritize citizens’ needs over unnecessary expenditures, emphasizing the importance of genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.

The planned construction of the Vice President’s new residence comes amidst allocations for renovations and other expenses, raising concerns about fiscal responsibility. The Council reiterated its readiness to pursue legal actions to address the misuse of public funds and urged the government to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
